the Soul of the City
Exhibition dates: January 11 – February 22
Opening: Friday, January 11, 2013, from 6 p.m.*
For its third-annual photo contest, the InstantDC photo collective put out an open call for images in response to the following quote from Oswald Spengler: “It goes without saying that what distinguishes a town from a village is not size, but the presence of a soul.” The Soul of The City exhibition at The Gallery at Vivid Solutions presents a selection of responses to the prompt by nine members of InstantDC: Michael Andrade, Jorge Bañales, James Campbell, Jim Darling, Keith Lane, Ryan Maxwell, Emily Reid, and Greg Schmigel. The exhibition will also include a digital slideshow of select contest submissions.
InstantDC is a photography collective showcasing the vast array of styles from local photographers. Utilizing everything from TLR film cameras from the 1940’s to polaroid and mobile phones, InstantDC is striving to redefine what photography means in the 21st century through exhibitions and community contests.
*Please note that The Gallery at Vivid Solutions will be located in the upstairs exhibition space at Honfleur Gallery at 1241 Good Hope Rd. SE while its permanent location is under renovation.
